According to the Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) there are, on average, more than 350 earthquakes per month (12 earthquakes per day!) in Costa Rica.

For this reason, CNE has scheduled the country’s first large-scale national earthquake drill (or “simulacro”), for next Monday, August 19, for which they expect more than a million people across the country to participate. Participants are invited to register with CNE through a link on the CNE website, where full information about the program can also be found.

Given the risk of earthquakes in Costa Rica, it’s probably a good idea for tourism operators to be better prepared by participating in the drill, not only for the safety of your guests and your staff members, but for the post-quake survivability of your business.
